Air Abrasion Microdentistry

Air Abrasion Microdentistry is a state-of-the-art system which replaces the drills with a gentle stream of abrasive particles enabling removal of decay with pinpoint accuracy. It is suitable for both adults and children. There is usually no noise or vibration, no needles, no odors and no pain! Dr Nalbandian was the first dentist to use this system in NSW. His international studies have focused on improving this system for treating early caries.

We recommend this procedure be limited to incipient/small cavities and not removing amalgam fillings. The first step is to use special caries detecting dye and/or a laser to highlight the decay. Then, using a fine spray of abrasive particles, we gently wipe away the surface decay without placing any stress on the tooth.

Finally, a flowable tooth-coloured restoration (tooth filling) is applied for correcting structural problems with individual teeth, missing teeth and general bite problems. Most of the white fillings today contain fluoride for protection.
