I am Dr Sarkis Nalbandian. I have extensive experience in dental implant reconstruction and implant technology, with dual training in both implant surgery and implant supported crowns, bridges and dentures, as well as in reconstructive dentistry, comprising all aspects of cosmetic dentistry and complex dental restoration. I am highly experienced in implant surgery, prosthodontics and application of composites and porcelain for treating simple to complex dental functional and aesthetic problems. Among my patients are prominent personalities of the political, diplomatic, business and artistic world. I also present numerous lectures both locally and internationally on an ongoing basis.

I am an experienced clinician in prosthodontics and implant surgery. I have placed and restored over 3000 dental implants. My practice, Designer Smiles in Cremorne on Sydney's North Shore, is a large referral practice for dental colleagues in the field of implant surgery and prosthodontics. I was one the first dentists in Australia to employ the techniques of microdentistry and piezosurgery in everyday practice. I incorporate safe, simple efficient concepts of every aspect of piezosurgery in my practice, especially where difficult implant placement is anticipated.

I was the first dentist to demonstrate the effect of cosmetic dentistry combined with plastic surgery on facial rejuvenation. I appeared on the well known Australian television program A Current Affair in 2001 and in 2005 evaluating the efficacy of over-the-counter tooth-whitening products compared to professionally delivered systems.

I completed my Bachelor of Dental surgery in 1983, Graduate Diploma in Clinical Dentistry (Oral Implants) in 2000 at the University of Sydney. I also completed my Masters (Prosthodontics) in 2005 with Distinction at the prestigious King’s College, University of London and Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (Prosthodontics) at University of Sydney.

I am in a specialist private referral practice, limited to Aesthetics, Prosthodontics & Implant surgery. My special interest is in the application of composites for treating complex functional and aesthetic problems, application of piezosurgery in implantology and bonding to zirconia. I stress the importance of tooth conservation for optimal function and smile enhancement: achieved in one visit, at a reduced cost and no patient discomfort. I've researched and published articles on patient's decision-making process when selecting composite or porcelain veneer systems. I am also a contributor to postgraduate Master's Degree programs in Restorative Dentistry and Prosthodontics at King’s College, University of London.

Why see a specialist Prosthodontist?

Prosthodontics is a speciality dealing with reconstructive dentistry. A prosthodontist is a specialist who is skilled in the replacement of missing teeth (and associated tissues) and the restoration of natural teeth.

To become a board-registered specialist prosthodontist in Australia, after graduating as a qualified dentist, I had to then undertake further full-time training in a University Master’s and Doctorate degree programme. The programme takes a minimum of three years and involves further study in all facets of dentistry. My skills were then tested by reputable universities.

The Australian training programmes provided in depth training in the areas of:

The chances are that if you are a patient aged 50 years and over with past dental treatments and complexity of care, you would need services of a specialist prosthodontist.

As a specilist Prosthodontist I have been involved in the level of training which gives me a unique ability to liaise closely with a ceramic technician resulting in the production of biologically compatible dental restorations, which remain serviceable in the long term. The training also includes liaison with the other specialist disciplines of dentistry for the purposes of delivering complex multi-disciplinary treatment. As the specialist delivering the final restoration the I am the co-ordinator of such treatment plans. As a result, as a specialist Prosthodontist I am a dental expert trained to take a comprehensive approach and capable of co-ordinating and delivering complex treatment plans aimed at rehabilitating your dentition to a state of maintainable health.

I have dual qualification both in prosthodontics and implant surgery. As a patient you will benefit and save time in one-visit assessment and treatment by one clinician when required, saving considerable time and finances.

Our state of the art facilities: in-house laboratory CT scan dental offices and other diagnostic services combined with our expertise allows effective and efficient delivery of specialist dental services in a caring environment.

I welcome you to our practice.
